ADVICE FOR PREPARING THE ROUTE

Modality

According to your interests and also your physical condition, evaluate which of the Cinquè Llac modalities suits you best: original, slow, MTB , guided or made-to-measure.

Recommended season

We recommend spring and autumn as the best seasons to visit El Cinquè Llac, both for the temperature and the landscape. However, due to the mild Mediterranean climate, it can be visited all year round, especially in mild winters and cooler summers. During the summer you have to be careful about the heat and set off early in the morning.

ADVICE TO MAKE THE WALK MORE PLEASANT AND SAFER

  • Light backpack: Carry a light backpack during the crossing.
  • Weather information: Check it every day and assess any associated risks.
  • Set off very early: Set off early and do not underestimate the terrain.
  • Good hydration: Drink plenty of water and continuously, especially during the hottest hours of the day.
  • Follow the route with the map and the route book: The route has its own map at a scale of 1:25,000, published by Alpina (which specialises in hiking cartography), and a route book. These must be your travel companions. A GPS can also be useful, but always combined with the map.
  • Consult the specific guidebook: El Cinquè Llac has a guidebook to help you interpret and understand the landscapes and the stories behind them. Writers, biologists, botanists, historians and the country’s shepherds themselves have contributed the wisdom contained in the guidebook.

Call if you have any questions or problems: If you are in an emergency situation, call 112. During the crossing, you will also always be able to contact a 24-hour telephone service to resolve any possible issues.

TIPS FOR RESPECTING THE ENVIRONMENT

  • Take your rubbish with you and deposit it in the designated places.
  • Respect livestock fences and close gates once you have passed through them.
  • If you bring a dog, keep it on a leash in areas where you encounter livestock.
  • If a dog follows you from a village, stop it following you.
  • Do not approach or disturb the local animals.
  • If animals approach you, do not panic; act calmly. The animals will probably think you are bringing them salt. Also do not show plastic bags near animals, for the same reason.
  • Respect the silence of nature. This will enable you to sense and hear special sounds and enjoy the characteristics of the area. Livestock like to feed peacefully.

AT THE END OF THE ROUTE, WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO:

  • Offset your carbon footprint with the Gratitud Pallars project.
  • Make a financial contribution to a micro-reserve, or sponsor a path, which you can also do through the Gratitud Pallars project.
  • Complete the evaluation questionnaire that we will send you.
  • Recommend the route to your family, friends, and acquaintances.
