10 reasons
These are the 10 compelling reasons for following the
Cinquè Llac route. Come and enjoy one of the most unique hiking experiences in the whole of Catalonia!
Immersion in an authentic and yet little-known territory
The Pre-Pyrenees and El Pallars, through which El Cinquè Llac runs, form part of one of the least-known areas of Catalonia. At the same time, this is a rural territory which is alive with human activity and where the local villages have maintained their original character and conserved their customs, legends, and traditions. If you are looking for authenticity, you will find it here.
An experience with every home comfort
If you book the full package, the only thing you will have to worry about is walking. You will sleep in charming rural accommodation; we will prepare packed lunches for you, and we will take your luggage from lodging to lodging. We also include an insurance policy, a train ticket, a route book to help interpret the landscapes and to learn about the local culture, and a very original final gift.
Arrive on the exceptional Tren dels Llacs
There are very few walks on which you can reach the start of the route by train. Take the famous Tren dels Llacs (Lakes Train) from Lleida and enjoy a spectacular journey that runs between cliffs and through amazing tunnels. Then, in La Pobla de Segur, where the train ride ends, put on your boots and start walking. In this way, your carbon footprint will be minimal.
Rural accommodation with charm and a family touch
The rural houses where you will rest at the end of each stage all have a special charm. Furthermore, their hosts have made hospitality and respect for the local territory a philosophy and way of life. You will feel at home, you will enjoy the local gastronomy and, in between conversations, you will discover the essence of El Pallars and the people who live there.
Varied meals and picnics to savour the local produce
At breakfasts and dinners in the rural houses, you will taste the best local products (xolís, la girella, cheeses, high-quality wines, Pyrenean brown cow and xisqueta sheep meat, etc.). And every morning, we will prepare picnics for you, presented in a lunch box covered with a bindle (linen napkin) of the type that the shepherds who used to walk these paths once prepared. We also offer vegan and vegetarian options.
Respect for and gratitude towards the territory that welcomes us
At El Cinquè Llac, we would like to help return to nature and the landscape all the happiness that they bring us. For this reason, working with the Consorci Leader Pirineu Occidental (Western Pyrenean Leader Consortium), we have promoted the Gratitud Pallars (Pallars Gratitude) project, which allows our visitors to offset their carbon footprint, help to recover a path, and improve the biodiversity of the micro-reserves of El Pallars.
Support for the time-honoured activity of shepherding
Extensive mountain livestock farming is currently going through difficult times, but at El Cinquè Lac, we ae committed to its past, present, and future because of all the values and benefits that it brings us. With this in mind, we help to recover livestock droving paths, we promote pastoral culture with the Shepherd’s Crook that we will give you, and we contribute towards reactivating the consumption of lamb meat.
Magnificent scenery dominated by silence and solitude
Today, there are still places, like the Cinquè Llac route, where you can experience the pleasure of walking in the most absolute solitude. These silent landscapes combine the wildest of high-mountain terrain, where you will be able to observe and track Pyrenean fauna (such as red deer, roe deer, foxes, vultures, and eagles, etc.), with rural landscapes that have been shaped by shepherds and thousands of generations of sheep and, more recently, also by cows.
Walk through the most magical parts of the Pyrenees
The route allows you to discover sleeping giantesses, find haunted houses, evoke witches’ covens and cross bridges built by the devil himself. It passes through areas steeped in legends, and from its hills you will observe a truly enigmatic body of water. This is the Estany de Montcortès (El Cinquè Llac), which you will only really discover on the last stage of the route.
Truly responsible and regenerative tourism
At El Cinquè Llac, we are committed to responsible and regenerative tourism. For this reason, we allocate 10% of the price of our packages to recovering traditional paths, we minimize the environmental impact of the experience (by arrivals using public transport, packed lunches, etc.), we promote a knowledge of the local culture and of the products and companies of the local territory.
